The last reunion I attended was the 20th. Since then, many
changes have occurred. I went back to school and received
my ECE degree to go with the BA from WSU. I went to work
in the child care center at Peninsula College. We were
transferred back to West Seattle in 1996. The timing was
right, as my dad was told his heart condition was terminal.
Helping mom with him was a bitter sweet homecoming. Later,
when mom was diagnosed with dementia, I moved in with her to
help my brother take full time care of her. I lost her in
2013, the same year my then spouse asked for a divorce after 36
years. I went back to my maiden name , and re-discovering
the person I once was. The adventure has been positive and an
eye opener.
I began work at the Boy Scout Shop, then landed a position as
lead teacher and director of an ECEAP program for Immigrant and
Refugee children. An opportunity opened up at Sanislo
School for kindergarten aide and reading tutor, again with
children with limited English skills. Work shifted to part
time at the Museum of Flight as their file clerk in the business
office, however, an injury to the shoulder ended this. The
recovery from surgery was longer than we all expected. I
am now retired, watching two of my five grandchildren while
their parents work.
Throughout my life, I have volunteered with youth. Running
Cub Scout Day camps, Royalty mom for the Port Angeles Festival,
theater programs with the church, and assisting the Drama
teacher at Sealth High School, where my two kids attended.
I have been involved with over 30 productions with children and
adults either as choreographer, assistant director, stage
manager, director, and of course acting. I've never made
money off my Speech/Theater degree, but it's been rewarding in
oh so many ways.
I have received the Boy Scout Silver Beaver award and many
commendations and awards with in the Lion's Club. I am
drawing again, do crafts of all kinds, knit and crochet, dance,
and love working in the yard. Despite all the challenges,
life has been good.
