Dave Skoor
Following graduation, I worked for a year at Virginia Mason
Hospital before attending Edmonds Community College and then
transferring to the University of Washington. I graduated in
1978 with a degree in Education with a focus on Industrial Arts.
Teaching positions were limited in the Seattle area at the time
of my graduation so I worked part time in a machine shop and
eventually landed a job at Boeing in late 1978.
With my Industrial Arts background, I
was hired into the Industrial Engineering department and worked
as a Methods Process Analyst and eventually moved into
management for a number of years. About three quarters of my
career was with the commercial side of the business supporting
all the models from the 747 to the 787, with the other quarter
supporting military programs, primarily the B-2. The last 15 or
so years of my career I was a Sr. Operations Program Analyst
supporting primarily commercial, but also military, programs.
This position allowed me to travel throughout the US to various
Boeing sites, and some of my support studies and benchmarking
projects took me also to Canada and Mexico. I retired from
Boeing in 2016 after 38 years.
My
wife Leslie and I were married in 1974 and we have been blessed
with 3 boys and 8 grandchildren. We are both active in church
life and volunteering. Since 2011, I have been a member of the
board of directors as VP and Secretary for
Orphans Africa, an
organization dedicated to the education and betterment for
orphans in Tanzania. I travel to our project schools in Tanzania
every two or three years to observe, assess and coordinate
projects that improve the schools and further enable quality
education for these children. It is a wonderful experience as I
get to spend time with the students and often stay in the local
homes of those who support our efforts. I also serve on the
board for the Samish Island Campground Association and am the
current Treasurer. My wife and I both volunteer for
Greyhound Pets Inc.
(GPI), an organization that endeavors to find forever homes for
ex-racing Greyhounds once their racing careers have ended. We
have fostered and adopted several of these wonderful dogs over
the last 15+ years.
Just
this past year I got back into education as a substitute
teacher. Something that I have thought about for many years. My
experience has been wonderful as I have worked with students
from Elementary through Sr. High and have had the heartwarming
and humbling experience of working with new English learners and
in particular special needs students.
Following retirement, Leslie and I have
traveled to Europe to experience river cruising and seeing
awesome and historic sites in Germany, Netherlands, France,
Austria, Switzerland and Hungary … wonderful! We also like to
take road trips to visit friends and family. Our road trips have
taken us to numerous national parks, forests and monuments along
the west coast, the southwest and along the Rocky Mountain range
and as far east as South Dakota. We are enjoying retirement
blessed with close family and watching our grandchildren grow.
We are fortunate that each of our boys live nearby and we get to
see them and their families frequently.
