I enlisted in the United States Coast
Guard when I was 17 on the delayed enlistment program.
After a fun summer after graduation, I spent September, October,
and part of November in Coast Guard bootcamp at Alameda,
California. After that, I was sent to Gunnersmate A School in
Yorktown, Virginia for twelve weeks. After graduating there, I was sent to an
icebreaker based out of Seattle which included deployments to
Antarctica and the Arctic.

I served on two other large
ships during my two four-year enlistments. Deployments
included patrols in the Grand Banks, Flemish Cap areas, and
deployments to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Beaufort Sea, Alaska,
Chukchi Sea, Alaska, the Bering Sea, and the North Pacific.
During this time, I attained the rank of Gunnersmate 1st Class
(Petty Officer 1st Class. E-6), a rank comparable to a Staff
Sergeant in the Army and Marine Corps.
After being discharged, I was employed
by the U.S. Postal Service for 36 and a half years. I
retired from there in 2011.

I now work part-time for UPS at Boeing
Field unloading and loading cargo jets (757s, 767s, 747s, and
MD-11s). I push them back from the gates and I'm the lead
De-Ice person in the winter. I also work for First and
Goal which is the parent corporation of the Seahawks and work
"in stands security." I also do the same thing at Husky
Stadium for the UW. And Finally, I'm an NCAA Baseball
Umpire.

In my "spare time," I enjoy watching my twelve-year-old grandson's baseball games where he is an outstanding
pitcher on two different teams.
I also love riding my Harley Davidson Heritage Softail
motorcycle and have made several trips to the huge motorcycle
rally in Sturgis, South Dakota. And I love playing with my Yellow
Labrador therapy dog Molly. |
